March 7th-March 13th at participating Sonoma County Restaurants:

With Sonoma County Restaurant week just around the corner, I wanted to find out which participating restaurants will be serving house fermented and pickled food, so I did some digging. There are so many local chefs who are passionate about food preservation and do their own pickling. We also have restaurants serving some incredible cured meats and other preserved items. Here’s my list of preserved foods being served at Sonoma County Restaurants for SCRW:

Backyard, Forestville, Ca: Chef-owner Daniel Kedan loves fermented foods! They will be serving their Tempeh Rueben with local, Alive & Healing tempeh and house fermented sauerkraut as an option on their RW menu. They also offer a killer pickle plate that you do not want to miss.

Spinster Sisters, Santa Rosa, Ca: I am a frequent visitor of Spinster Sisters. You can usually find me there, late Sunday mornings with friends, eating Eggs Benedict and drinking a little hair of the dog. Executive chef, Liza Hinman puts a fresh, California spin on traditional well known dishes. SS offers a house-made pickle plate and ferment their own kimchi. If you plan to visit, you MUST ask your server for their house-made hot sauce. Be warned, this hot sauce will ruin all other hot sauces for you, so proceed with caution.

Woodfour Brewing Company, Sebastopol, Ca: This place is not your average brewery with food. Woodfour has taken good food and beer to the next level, meeting all of Sonoma County foodies’ high expectations. Woodfour is serving local pickle and fermented vegetables and house made sauerkraut on their farmstead cheese melt during SCRW. However, on any given day, their kitchen is always pickling or fermenting something, just ask.

Belly Left Coast Kitchen & Tap Room, Santa Rosa, Ca: Belly opened up in downtown Santa Rosa three years ago and filled a much needed void in the area; Somewhere downtown that serves great beer and wine, and foodie food, like truffle mac and cheese, and one of the best kale ceaser salads I’ve ever tasted. After checking out their SCRW menu, I have to say, this will most definitely be one of my stops. Some of the preserved foods they are offering include grilled brie and smoked salmon and capers. Enjoy craft beer and ciders from all over the west coast with lunch or dinner.

Peter Lowell’s, Sebastopol, Ca: Peter Lowell’s is a tiny cafe in Sebastopol, and is a local favorite. Peter Lowell prides himself on supporting local produce and farmers, and serving the highest quality, organic ingredients. If you’ve ever eaten there, you can truly taste the difference. The food is fresh and light and the selection is unlike any other restaurant in Sonoma County. They will be offering their Tempeh Rueben with house-made sauerkraut during SCRW.

Rosso Pizzeria Restaurants, Petaluma & Santa Rosa, Ca: Rosso Pizzeria & Wine Bar first opened in 2008 in Santa Rosa. Owner Kevin Cronin is all about people, passion and product and you can truly feel it when you’re there. Cronin opened a second location in downtown Petaluma with a focus on fresh mozzarella. Not only does Rosso win Best Pizza in the Press Democrat “Best Of”  Awards almost every year, but the place is packed every night, with locals and tourists alike, looking for superior Napoli-style pizza and local produce. Both locations will be participating in SCRW, offering their house-made buratta cheese and procuitto di parma, one of a kind salads, and any pizza of your choice.

HopMonk Tavern, Sonoma & Sebastopol, Ca: HopMonk is a staple in the North Bay, known for high quality entertainment, great beer and eclectic menus. The outdoor patio area in Sebastopol is open year round with fire pits and romantic lighting. The stage and bar is separate from the restaurant and the dining room has a trendy and relaxed vibe. HopMonk Sonoma is offering a Sausage Board of Two Grilled Local Sausage Served with Fresh Pickles Veggies, Honey and Dijon Mustard for SCRW, along with a ton of other delicious options. Their fermented offering in Sebastopol is a must-have BBQ tofu sandwich.

K&L Bistro, Sebastopol, Ca: I recently dined at K&L for the first time and loved it! The service is near perfection and I wanted to order everything on the menu. K&L does quite a bit of house preserving including pickled onions and cured olives. K&L will be participating in SCRW for dinner only, including their house-cured olives. This is a must-stop to satisfy a Sonoma County salad craving.
